Hard Reset Netgear Router

When your Netgear wireless router is crashed, or if you have forgotten the password of your Netgear wireless router, then you have to hard reset your Netgear wireless router. This can also be said as the factory reset. Performing Hard Reset on your Netgear router will remove all the settings on your router and will restore it to default.

Hard Reset using the Reset button:

Most of the Netgear wireless routers have the reset button at the rear side. To hard reset such Netgear routers, follow the steps given below.

  • To hard reset the Netgear router, it should be kept on. So, turn on your Netgear router.
  • Locate the Reset pinhole at the rear side of your Netgear wireless router.
  • Get a paper clip or pin and insert it into the Reset pinhole.
  • Then, press and hold the Reset button for seven seconds.
  • Your Netgear wireless router will be reset to the factory defaults.
  • So, when you log in to the web portal of your Netgear wireless router, you have to use the default login credentials.

Hard Reset without Reset button:

Few Netgear wireless router models do not have the Reset button on them. So the method to reset these Netgear wireless routers are different. Follow the steps as mentioned to hard reset the Netgear wireless routers that do not have a reset button.

  • Press and hold both the Wireless and WPS buttons on your Netgear wireless router for six seconds.
  • Press and hold these buttons till the Power LED on your Netgear wireless router turns red.
  • When the Netgear wireless router is reset, it will reboot.
