How to Connect a Netgear Extender To a Router

Follow the simple guidelines to connect a Netgear extender to your wireless router.

  • Unbox the Netgear extender and plug it into an electrical outlet.
  • Power up both the Netgear extender and wireless router.
  • Note: The Netgear extender and wireless router should be in the same room.
  • Check if your current wireless router supports WPS.
  • On the front panel of the Netgear extender, press and hold the WPS button.
  • Find the WPS button at the front or rear side of the wireless router and then hold it.
  • This will connect the Netgear extender to the wireless router.
  • Note: The WPS LED will be lit only if the connection between the Netgear extender and the wireless router is successful.
  • The Netgear extender should not be placed nearer to any wireless item, such as a microwave oven.
  • Go to your computer or laptop from which you want to access the network.
  • Click the Network icon on the system tray, choose the network name, and click the Connect button.
  • Make sure to enter the correct network name (password) of the wireless router.
