The UPnP protocol allows applications to search for front-end NAT devices automatically. Universal Plug and Play help devices like computers and other Internet appliances to access and connect to other devices. Universal Plug and Play is mostly used for multiplayer gaming, real-time communication, remote assistance are peer-to-peer connections. You have to connect the TP-Link router and enable UPnP on TP link router to your Windows computer to assess the UPnP feature. The protocol is compatible with Windows Vista, Windows 7, and all the latest versions of the Windows operating system. Operating systems request to install the UPnP component separately. In most cases, UPnP is automatically enabled by default on the TP-Link router.

Let’s now have a look at the steps to check if UPnP is enabled on a TP-Link router.

  • Navigate to the TP-Link router’s web-based setup page from a web browser using its URL.
  • Otherwise, enter the IP address of the router in the address bar of the browser.
  • You can find the IP address on the router's label.
  • If you don't find it, press the Windows and R buttons together.
  • Type cmd in the search section and click on the OK button.
  • Now, enter ipconfig in the Command Prompt window and hit the Enter key.
  • Locate the IP address of the TP-Link router in the Default Gateway section.
  • Log in to the web-based setup page of the router using its username and password. The default login credentials can be found on the rear side of the router. You can also check the user manual.
  • Navigate to the Advanced section and select NAT Forwarding.
  • Now, select UPnP and turn on the toggle switch next to it if it is not turned on.
  • Restart your router after enabling Universal Plug and Play.
  • Finally, successfully enable UPnP on TP link router.
