How To Fix Netgear Router 2.4 And 5ghz Not Working?

The Netgear routers have selectable dual-band routers that provide the frequency bands of Netgear router 2.4 and 5ghz not working. The advantage of using dual-band is 2.4 GHz band enables long-range transmission with a comparatively lower speed, and the 5 GHz frequency band provides a shorter range transmission at high speed.Sometimes, you may experience trouble using both the bands. Refer to the following solutions to fix the issue on the Netgear router settings.

Update the router firmware

  • Connect the Netgear router and the computer using an Ethernet cable.
  • Turn on the router and make sure the modem is working.
  • Open a web browser on your computer, type the router login URL or router IP address, and press the Enter key.
  • Once the router login page opens up, enter the default username and password, which are admin and password, respectively.
  • In case you had changed the router credentials earlier, use them to log in to the router setup page.
  • When the router configuration page appears, go to the Advanced section and choose Administration.
  • Next, select Router Update, click the Check button, and see if the updates are available.
  • Finally, select the Yes button to upgrade the router firmware to the latest version.
  • After the update, disconnect the network cable and connect the devices to the wireless network of bands 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

Check the wireless router settings

  • Visit the router configuration page, as mentioned in the previous solution from the browser application.
  • On the main dashboard, click the Settings icon and select the Setup menu.
  • Choose Wireless Setup and continue with the wireless settings.
  • Select the correct Region and do not enable the Smart Connect, as it automatically selects the Wi-Fi frequency band for transmission.
  • By default, the checkbox of Enable Smart Connect is enabled. Therefore, untick it and choose any one frequency band either from 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.
  • Complete the wireless settings for the band you chose and retry connecting the Wi-Fi device to the network.

Disable the coexistence settings

  • If there are other wireless networks around the building or in the surrounding, your network gets disturbed with them. So you have to decrease the interference using the settings on the Netgear router configuration page.
  • Under the Wireless Setup menu, you can find the Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence menu.
  • It is turned on by default to prevent network interference, but this reduces the Wi-Fi transmission speed.
  • Click the checkbox of Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence menu to disable it. Save the changes made after setting up the Netgear router 2.4 and 5ghz not working.
