This is the launch guide for the ARRIS G36. It is retained as an indexable model page because its management or troubleshooting path is meaningfully different from the site's generic setup guides.

Identify the exact hardware

The G36 is a DOCSIS 3.1 AX3000 cable gateway. Check the label and any hardware or regional identifier before using firmware, recovery instructions or screenshots intended for another product.

How this product is managed

The G36 combines SURFboard local or app management with cable-provider activation and provisioning.

Why the G36 needs its own guide

Two networks meet inside the G36: the DOCSIS cable connection facing the provider and the Ethernet/Wi‑Fi LAN facing the home. The local admin page can work even when the modem side is offline.

Setup sequence

  1. Connect coax securely and allow the gateway to acquire downstream and upstream channels.
  2. Activate the exact device with the cable provider.
  3. Confirm online status and test an Ethernet client.
  4. Configure Wi‑Fi only after the provider-facing link is working.

Start diagnosis here

If every local device loses Internet, inspect modem status and provider service before changing wireless security. If Ethernet is healthy but Wi‑Fi is poor, the DOCSIS link is probably not the immediate fault.

A mistake to avoid

Do not repeatedly reset the G36 during a provider outage or before activation. A reset erases local configuration but cannot provision the modem or repair a weak cable signal.

Verify the result

After any change, repeat the original test instead of relying only on a successful save message. Check the upstream connection, one wired client where applicable, and the affected wireless or managed device separately. Record the setting that changed so it can be restored if the result is worse.

Use ARRIS official documentation for G36 for current firmware, revision-specific notes and interface changes. Manufacturer or provider documentation should take precedence when the live product differs from this guide.

Credential safety: Router-Setup.com is independent of ARRIS and does not need your administrator password, Wi‑Fi key or remote-control access.
