How to Reset a Router Without Creating New Problems

Restarting and factory resetting are different actions. A restart preserves settings; a factory reset erases the network configuration.

Try a Restart First

Disconnect power for about thirty seconds, reconnect it and allow the router to boot fully.

Export the configuration or record ISP, Wi-Fi, port-forwarding and parental-control details.

Check the current state. Record what works before changing settings.

Make one change. Test after each action so the cause stays clear.

Secure and document. Save working settings and avoid exposing credentials.

With power on, hold the recessed reset button for the period stated by the manufacturer until indicators change.

Reconnect using the default details on the label and re-enter any ISP requirements.

Change administrator and Wi-Fi passwords, enable modern encryption and update firmware.

Does reset change the public IP?

Not necessarily. Public addressing is controlled by the ISP.

Will I lose my Wi-Fi name?

A factory reset removes the custom name and password.

Why is reset not working?
